A Boy at War is an excellent World War II book for middle school readers. It is filled with every kind of figurative language. Harry Mazer's use of these literary devices allows students to visualize the every event in the book. Students can easily connect the text to themselves through the trials and tribulations of the protagonist, Adam Pelko.
